Make your own fluttering dragonfly with this free printable craft! Kids can color their dragonfly, wear it as a wristband, or attach it to a craft stick to make a fun flapping puppet.
This easy paper craft is perfect for an afternoon activity, classroom project, or a little nature-inspired creativity!
What You’ll Need
- Free dragonfly printable (download below)
- White printer paper (recommended) or lightweight cardstock
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
- Scissors
- Glue or tape
- Craft stick (optional)
How to Make Your Dragonfly Craft
- Print the free dragonfly template on regular printer paper for the best flapping effect. Lightweight cardstock works too, but the wings may not move quite as easily.
- Color your dragonflies however you’d like!
- Cut around the dragonflies and the wristband strip.
- Make it double-sided (optional): Glue the backs of the two dragonflies together, lining up the wings and body so your dragonfly looks great from both sides.
- Fold the wings along the fold lines to help them flap.
- Choose how to play!
- Wristband: Attach the dragonfly to the paper wristband, then secure the band around your wrist with tape or cut along the dashed lines on the wristband to create a tab and slot closure option.
- Puppet: Tape or glue a craft stick to the back of your dragonfly.
Move your wrist or gently wiggle the craft stick to watch those wings flutter!
Classroom Tip: If you’re making these with a group of younger kids, consider cutting out the dragonflies ahead of time so they can focus on coloring and assembling their crafts!
